Volkswagen drops the price of its electric ID.7, a rival to the Tesla Model 3, by 8,900 euros


At the start of 2024, Volkswagen has just presented a global overhaul of its electric car range, including significant reductions for most of its models. The ID.7 is no exception to the rule with a fairly spectacular drop in its prices.

Barely launched and already sold out? The Volkswagen ID.7, we had the opportunity to try it a few weeks ago at Survoltés, and this large electric sedan does everything well overall, nothing more, but its cruel lack of “flavor” left us wondering. hunger.

Generally speaking, the sedan segment has been suffering in recent years, particularly due to SUVs. However, with the advent of electric, customer interest could return, particularly with more careful aerodynamics, thus promoting autonomy, but also better habitability in many respects.

Volkswagen back in the battle with Tesla?

Still, the Volkswagen ID.7 is struggling to appeal, even in China, where the brand only recorded 300 orders in the first 72 hours of marketing. In Europe, the situation is not much better, but overall Volkswagen’s entire ID range is suffering.

To react, Volkswagen simply acted in the simplest (and undoubtedly the most effective!) way: a significant drop in prices. ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 see their prices drop, and ID.7 too!

The manufacturer has completely overhauled its range. On the ID.7, there is only one finish called “Life Max”. It is based on the “old” finish which was called “Style Exclusive” and which represented the top of the range in the catalog.

This was priced at 67,990 euros, but with this new finish, the price drops to 59,990 euros, while adding the standard metallic paint that Volkswagen values ​​at around 900 euros. This therefore represents a reduction of 8,900 euros compared to previous prices.

It is still around 10,000 euros more expensive than a Tesla Model 3 Grande Autonomie, but the ID.7 is also larger, more habitable and competes in terms of autonomy with the American sedan.

The basic finish of the ID.7 is rather already well equipped with equipment:

  • 19-inch alloy wheels,
  • Style Plus interior with ArtVelours upholstery, electric, heated and massaging ErgoActive front seats, customizable ambient lighting in 30 colors,
  • Design Pack with IQ projectors. Light Matrix LED, electric trunk with “Easy Open & Close” function, dark-tinted rear windows,

  • Head-up display with augmented reality,
  • 3-zone “Smart Air Vents” air conditioning with activated carbon filter,
  • “Keyless Access Advanced” keyless locking and starting system,
  • Semi-driving driving assistant ‘Travel Assist 2.5’ with assisted lane change…

The Volkswagen ID.7 in a few figures

The only version available at launch, the ID.7 Pro targets 615 km of autonomy on the WLTP mixed cycle with a battery of 77 useful kWh (82 gross kWh) already present on the rest of the ID range.

In the fall of 2024, a new accumulator of 86 useful kWh (91 gross kWh) will allow you to drive up to 700 km and accept a charging power of 200 kW in direct current, against 170 kW for the Pro variant.

This ID.7 Pro S will still be based on a 400 volt architecture and not 800 volts like some of its competitors, like the Ioniq 6 for example, which explains this still somewhat “limited” charging power. The full complement of electrons is thus achieved in approximately 30 minutes compared to 18 minutes at Hyundai or Kia.
