Volkswagen ID.1: the electric car for less than €20,000 could arrive from 2026

A possible Volkswagen ID.1 would be placed in the range below the production version of the ID.2all concept.

While electric cars costing less than €25,000 excluding bonuses are on the horizon, we are already talking about models below the €20,000 mark. Thus, Renault will soon launch its electric R5 and Volkswagen the production version of its ID.2all concept, to compete with the new Citroën ë-C3, sold from €23,300.

The little Citroën is planning a version with a smaller battery in 2025, which will allow it to fall below the €20,000 mark. At Renault, it is the Twingo, not even buried yet, which is already announcing its return. A new, exclusively electric generation will be offered in 2026 for less than €20,000.

Not before the second half of the decade

It is therefore Volkswagen’s turn to announce its next step in the democratization of electric cars. Oliver Blume, the boss of the German group, indicated this Wednesday that Volkswagen could produce electric cars for less than €20,000 in the second half of the decade, i.e. between 2026 and 2030. “We have the responsibility to bring the right products to the market at the right price”, explains Oliver Blume (source: Reuters). However, no decision has yet been made on the production of a possible ID.1. It is therefore still too early to speculate on its technical sheet.
