At the end of June, Volkswagen was forced to stop production of its ID. Buzz, the electric replacement for the Multivan that we discovered in detail at the start of the year. In question, a problem with the batteries of a new supplier which had proved to be defective with a voltage too low and therefore a reduced autonomy. 500 units of the electric van had been produced, which had made it possible to limit breakage.
Production can start again!
The good news if you ordered an ID. Buzz is that the Wolfsburg firm announced to the German site Automobilwoche the resumption of production since July 4th. According to the Volkswagen spokesperson, the problem has been identified and corrected and the new batteries delivered now meet the specifications.
It is not known whether the 500 ID. Buzz products already have this defect or not, but if so, it shouldn’t take Volkswagen too long to change the battery. Note also that these 500 units are destined for dealerships across Europe.
The pause in production will have prevented Volkswagen from manufacturing 200 electric vans in total. The delay will never really be caught up, but the manufacturer plans to produce 45 IDs. Buzz a day now and up to 180 vehicles daily by the end of the year.
First deliveries expected at the end of the year
As a reminder, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz can already be ordered and configured on the Volkswagen site, from 56,990 euros (excluding ecological bonus), with the first deliveries planned for the fourth quarter of 2022. German has already worked on a sports van version fitted out for the ID. buzz.
