Volkswagen teases its future ID.1 and its Cupra and Skoda derivatives

The Volkswagen Group has revealed three sketches of the models that will replace the e-Up!, the Skoda Citigo-e iV and the Seat Mii, each with a different style but all based on the MEB Small platform. Their launch is scheduled for 2025.

While Volkswagen is preparing to start mass production of the ID.Buzz, the German manufacturer is working in parallel on the other projects in the ID range. If we know that the production version of the ID Life is on the way (sort of electric T-Cross), Volkswagen unveils previews of its future ID.1 and its cousins ​​from Skoda and Cupra.

Volkswagen has released three sketches that match the three brands’ future entry-level electric cars, which will replace the e-Up!, Skoda Citigo-e iV and Seat Mii Electric.

As for the ID.1, everything seems to indicate that it will be a “mini ID.3”, with a fairly similar style in terms of design with a body with rounded and fluid lines. The hatchback will thus stand out from the ID.2 or the ID.Life, characterized by tauter lines and a more neo-retro oriented style.

The Cupra sketch offers a sportier design, with more angular and taut lines at the front, sides and rear. Its style is inspired by the UrbanRebel concept presented in 2021 and responds precisely to the more sporting orientation of the Spanish company.

Finally, the Skoda sketch also stands out for its straight lines and square shapes, although it promises better use of space and an almost SUV or crossover style, highlighted by the wheel arches with protections. According to the Czech company and the strategy of the group, it will be responsible for achieving the largest volume of sales, Skoda being positioned as the most accessible of the three brands.

As expected, these three products will have their platform in common: it is a simplified version of the MEB, called MEB Small, which will have a single motor located on the rear axle, smaller dimensions and a battery capacity slightly lower than the ID.3. Some versions are expected to incorporate an additional engine on the front axle in order to have all-wheel drive.

Their launch is scheduled for 2025 and the group’s objective is to position them in a range between €20,000 and €25,000. To be continued …
