  • A successful coup: Neuchâtel UC narrowly beat Grot Budowlani Lodz (POL) and is in the final of the CEV Cup.
  • After winning the first leg 3-1, the volleyball players from Neuchâtel lost the second leg 3-1 at home.
  • In the decisive “Golden Set” NUC retained the upper hand and prevailed 15:13.

Neuchâtel UC is in the final of the second highest European competition. In the semi-finals of the CEV Cup, the Swiss champions prevailed against Grot Budowlani Lodz. After the surprising 3-1 first leg win, they improved their starting position thanks to a strong “golden set”. This became necessary after the Neuchâtel women had also lost the second leg with a score of 1:3.

The decision went back and forth. For a long time no team was able to break away decisively. The game was close until 13:13. But then the Neuchâtel women got the decisive two points – reaching the final was a fact. The sold-out Riveraine hall shook – the success could be celebrated.

First sentences lost

The evening actually didn’t start well for the Neuchâtel girls. The first two sets went to the Poles with a score of 21:25. After winning the third round (25:17), winning another set would have been enough for NUC to reach the final. But the 4th set was lost 23:25 – so the “Golden Set” was needed. There the Swiss kept the better end for themselves.

In doing so, NUC is also making history. It is the first time a Swiss team has reached the final since Köniz 2003. The Bernese team had lost the final of the previous competition. This year, Neuchâtel has the opportunity to go one step further.

In the final, the NUC, coached by Swiss national coach Lauren Bertolacci, will face either the Italians from Chieri ’76 or the French from Paris Saint-Cloud in mid-March. Chieri heads into Wednesday’s second leg in the French capital with a 3-2 home win. The finals are for the 13th/20th. March is planned, and the Neuchâtel women will definitely compete at home first.
