Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday June 28 asked the NATO countries meeting in Madrid for modern artillery and financial support to deal with the invasion of his country by Russian forces.

“For us to break the preponderance of Russian artillery, a significant advantage, we need a lot more of these modern systems, this modern artillery“said Volodymyr Zelensky during his intervention by video. He claimed that “financial support for Ukraine is as important as arms aid“in view of his”multi-billion dollar deficit“, while Moscow benefits from the income of its oil and gas exports. According to him, Ukraine needsapproximately $5 billion per monthto ensure his defense. “If you really define Russia as the main threat, you must fully support its first and main target“, continued Volodymyr Zelensky, assuring that Ukraine was fighting for “the future world order“.
The Ukrainian president also once again called for tougher sanctions against Moscow, a “absolute necessity” who “will stop its ability to pay for the war“. Ukraine already receives heavy armaments and support from Western countries but faces strong assaults from Russian forces in certain areas of the front. Ukrainian troops had to withdraw recently from the eastern city of Severodonetsk after weeks of fierce fighting.
