Anyone who has just washed the mud of this year’s Wacken Open Air off their skin can already look forward to the coming 2024 edition.

After the mud fight is before the mud fight – and so immediately after the Wacken Open Air 2023 the planning for the upcoming edition is already in full swing. For Wacken number 33, which will rise from July 31st to August 3rd, 2024, the first 33 brute bands are now confirmed.

The big headliners are the Scorpions and the Swedish metal band Amon Amarth at the top of the announcement poster. Just like the medieval rockers from In Extremo and the Krefeld metal colleagues from Blind Guardian. Other acts announced include Beast in Black, Knorkator, The Warning, Primordial and Red Fang to name a few. If you already like the line-up, you can secure tickets in advance starting this Sunday (August 6th, 8:00 p.m.).

Hoping for better weather

Hopefully in 2024 the weather gods will be a metal fan again. This year’s Wacken Open Air, which took place from August 2nd to 5th, was ill-fated. Due to massive downpours and the associated masses of mud on site, it was even on the brink at times. A complete ban on entry had to be imposed shortly before the starting gun was fired. For the first time in the history of the cult festival, this decision had to be made. Instead of the 85,000 people announced in advance, only around 50,000 are said to have made it onto the site.

Co-founder Thomas Jensen once said how difficult this decision was detailed statement on the official Instagram page: He doesn’t know what was harder: the two corona-related cancellations in 2019 and 2020 or telling the people who are currently on the way that they can’t come anymore. Shortly thereafter, frustrated metalheads, who were left in the dark because of this, were informed: “All ticket holders who cannot attend the festival because of this will have their ticket price refunded.”
