The year 2022 could be marked by an increase in wages in certain sectors such as catering.

A Christmas present soon to be delivered. Employees in the catering sector should see their wages increase by the end of January 2022. Trade unions and employers have reached an agreement to increase the hourly minimum wage. While today a catering employee receives 10.48 euros gross per hour, he will receive 11.01 euros gross per hour in 2022, an increase of around 5%. And on the salary grid, employees can note an average increase of 16.3%.

Asked in the televised news just after the announcement, some restaurant managers said they were delighted to “this unprecedented advance”. This is the case of Xavier Denamur, the owner of a Parisian brasserie, who declared at LCI’s microphone: “It is an excellent thing since people were indeed on minimums, even too poorly paid in the profession”. If this increase will make people happy, it comes at a time when the sector is facing a labor shortage. Stéphanie Dayan, national secretary of the CFDT, sees it as a way to make the restaurant industry more “Attractive” after “A flight of employees to other sectors”. “The sector has lost around 237,000 employees so if we want to make the branch attractive, we have no other choice but to revalue salaries”, she says.

Other jobs will soon be affected

It seems that catering is not the only area affected by the rise in wages. If this shortage of workers is noted in various wage branches, around forty sectors have already announced that they are in the midst of negotiations. This is the case for industry, mass distribution and personal services. Case to follow.
