The wage differences between women and men in Switzerland have continued to narrow.
In 2022 the gap was 9.5 percent. According to figures from the Federal Statistical Office (BFS), this is two percentage points less than four years previously.
The average median wage was therefore 6,788 francs.
The gender-specific wage differences can be partly explained by the different level of education or the level of responsibility in the workplace, according to a statement from the BFS. In general, the wage differences reflected the different professional integration of women and men in the labor market.
The higher the hierarchical level of the position, the greater the gender-specific wage difference, as can be seen from the latest Swiss wage structure survey. In 2022, women in positions with a high level of responsibility earned 9,565 francs gross per month, while men at the same level received 11,212 francs, which corresponds to a difference of 14.7 percent. This value has also decreased.
More to come.
