Maggie and Negan make their way through the infested streets of Manhattan in the new spin-off series from The Walking Dead, due out sometime in 2023.

After 12 years and 11 seasons, AMC’s hit original series came to an end on November 20. However, the final 90-minute episode obviously didn’t end some destinies, given the many spin-off series in the works.

Today’s focus is on The Walking Dead: Dead City revealing its first images to fans, previewing the new adventures of one of TWD’s universe’s most shocking duos, traveling to New York City. .

Taking place two years after the main series finale, the six-episode spin-off therefore centers on Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), two characters who have long been at odds – ever since Negan joined the show. and brutally murdered Maggie’s husband, Glenn (Steven Yeun)! Quickly on his way to redemption, Negan has since joined the “good guys” side, leading the unlikely pair to work together.

The Dead City teaser thus shows the duo of survivors venturing on the post-apocalypse island of Manhattan, long cut off from the mainland. At the helm of the series, we find Eli Jorne (The Walking Dead) as showrunner.

As Collider reports, franchise architect Scott M. Gimple spoke on the subject in a recent statement:

Eli has created a chaotic, beautiful, and grimy madhouse for Negan, Maggie, and fans of the show to experience an unseen, insane world of the TWD universe. Lauren and Jeffrey have always been fantastic collaborators and now we’re taking that collaboration to the next level with a series that will take these characters to their limits with the world – and with each other. We’re all excited to take you on an all-new TWD epic through the ages.

This obviously isn’t the first time AMC has explored the world of the living dead outside of the parent series, and it certainly won’t be the last. The show’s popularity indeed led to the creation of Fear the Walking Dead (2015), followed by The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020) – which is essentially a teen-centric version of the series – and more recently the anthology series, Tales of the Walking Dead (2022).

In addition to Dead City, the TWD story will continue with two additional series. Indeed, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) on the one hand, and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) on the other, also got their own shows, aptly titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. and Rick and Michonne.

The Walking Dead: Dead City is set to debut on our screens around April 2023. And here is its first trailer:
