The New York Stock Exchange ended a euphoric year for stocks with a slight decline, while the outlook for 2024, an election year in the United States, is more uncertain.
The Dow Jones index ended down 0.05% but up more than 13% over the year, very close to a new record, according to provisional results. The Nasdaq, where technology is concentrated, lost 0.56% on Friday but gained more than 43% over the year. The S&P 500 lost 0.28% but gained 24% in 2023.
