You are intrigued by the retrofit, or even interested in converting your thermal car into an electric vehicle? From April 25 to June 24, the Retrofuture company is touring France with its vehicles transformed into electric models.

“Retrofitting” means replacing a combustion engine, petrol or diesel, with an electric motor (and soon, perhaps, with a hydrogen motor). The practice, now authorized and supervised in France, thus makes it possible to give a second life to a thermal vehicle that is still roadworthy, without continuing to consume gasoline.

How it works ?

The project highlights two major issues of sustainable development: the reduction of carbon emissions, and recycling. Slowing down consumption and production, repairing rather than replacing, these are the credos of retrofitting: “ do not destroy, but rehabilitate “. This conversion makes it possible in particular to compensate for the obsolescence of old vehicles caused by low-emission zones in the city centre. Indeed, vintage cars or thermal models dating from before 2006 can thus be transformed into a zero-emission vehicle, and continue to circulate briskly.

In addition, Retrofuture also offers you the opportunity to buy vehicles that have already been converted to electric. For €22,000, you can therefore afford a Fiat 500 from the last century… in an electric version! If you already have the vehicle, count €6,000 less. The conversion price varies for each vehicle.

The retrofit tour of France

To make itself known, Retrofuture is organizing the REV Retrofit Tour this year, which will pass through forty cities in France. Since Monday April 25, six retrofitted vehicles have been traveling across France. The tour started yesterday in Cannes, and will continue in the south of France, before going up to the west and then to the north during May. From June 1 to 4, the Retrofit Tour will stop in Paris, then descend east to end in Lyon on June 23 and 24. To get there, simply register by phone or e-mail.

At the REV Retrofit tour, you can admire a bus, two utility vehicles and three old cars converted to electric. If you are not yet convinced by the approach, the Tour will be an opportunity to meet professionals in the sector who will be able to answer your questions. The aim also seems to be to convince local authorities who could make good use of the retrofit to convert, for example, their public transport fleet to electric.

Retrofit: what if we converted to electric?

It’s official: the “retrofit” now has its own regulatory framework, thus facilitating the conversion of thermal vehicles into electric. But although the operation is now possible, a question arises: should we convert to retrofit?
