War crimes due diligence: Reply to Reinhard Merkel

One would think that in the case of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which cannot be justified by anything, the moral and thus also legal fronts would be clear. Since 2014, however, the legal philosopher Reinhard Merkel has based his international legal positions on Ukraine on an incorrect analysis of the real events.

Since February 24, 2022, the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine has led to cruel war crimes against the Ukrainian population. There is no end in sight. Against this background, it is discouraging that almost a year after the start of the renewed and massive Russian attack on Ukraine – after a first wave of attacks in 2014/15 – mainstream politics and the public in Germany still do not agree on how to deal with the Russian threat reigns.
