Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin will set the RTS on fire on November 17

Our preview of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin frankly thrilled us. Its very modern RTS proposal in the Warhammer universe, with a rather well-thought-out hero system, delighted the board game (and Dawn of War) fan who is writing these few lines. Suffice to say that we were waiting with some impatience for Frontier Developments to finally deliver the official release date of the game. It’s finally done, and with style, since it’s during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live that the developers have marked on November 17 with a hot iron. Incidentally, Frontier also revealed that the Hantenuits would be part of it, and that a new game mode, called “Conquest” would delight fans of competitive online multiplayer.

Warhammer and the 999 ghosts

The heart of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin will be his single-player campaign for many. This one features the Eternals of the Storm, determined to conquer the hostile territories of Ghur, in order to be able to exploit a mysterious source of power there. After arriving in Ghur, the heroes in shining armor spot a strange artifact. However, this one is held by the Hantenuits, the servants of Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead and Master of Necromancy. From then on, it’s the drama, everything is linked… The Hauntenuits will unleash armies of ghosts and other teeming spirits, their main strength being in their numbers. The Hantenuits will therefore constitute the third fighting faction of Realms of Ruin, after the Storm Eternals and the Orruk Kruleboyz. Like these two other camps, the Hantenuits will be playable in multiplayer mode (in 1v1 or 2v2), and in the new Conquest mode.

What about this Conquest mode? Frontier Developments’ press release describes this new game mode as follows: “In Conquest mode, players will complete a variety of randomly generated challenges to achieve the highest score, battling individual 1v1 skirmishes across a larger map, before engaging in a final battle to complete each round. But not everything is as simple as it seems: new rules transform the conditions of the conflict, such as by considerably reducing the vision of the squad, by increasing the speed of movement of the units or by imposing limits of strict times to increase the level of difficulty. Players will have to make tough choices between increasing their bonus modifier or earning extra lives as they battle through the field for the highest possible score. Each game in Conquest mode is based on a reference number that can be shared with other players“. A mode that therefore seems cut out for multiplayer, and perhaps even for a competitive scene… Time will tell.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin will hit the market on November 17 on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at a suggested retail price of €59.99 for the Standard Edition, €69.99 for the Deluxe Edition and 74, 99€ for the Ultimate Edition. The Deluxe and Ultimate versions will allow access to the game from November 14, 2023. Note that the title will be cross-platform. Pre-orders are already open on the dedicated official website.
