Washing jeans: you have to pay attention to this

Women and men love blue jeans. So that the popular trousers don't lose their color and shape the first time they are washed, we reveal the most important tips for washing jeans.

In general, jeans differ in terms of fabric fibers and washing, so the care instructions must always be followed. While blue jeans made of 100 percent cotton are quite robust, jeans with spandex need different care because they are more sensitive to heat. We have summarized the best washing tips:

Washing jeans: how often?

Before starting the washing instructions, it should be clear that the jeans fibers are not dyed through and it is therefore quite normal for the jeans to fade after a while. Therefore, you should never put them in the Washing machine stuck. In addition, the trousers wear out if they are washed too often and the jeans lose their fit.

The less they are washed, the better. It's best to only wash it when you see stains or when it starts to smell. In particular, jeans with a high percentage of stretch should be washed less often.

Wash jeans: temperature and detergent

  • The optimal washing temperature for jeans is included 30 degrees. Either you choose a special jeans washing program or a program for Fine- or colored laundry. Because of the zips and buttons, the spin program should be kept as low as possible – around 700 revolutions for stretch jeans and around 1000 for cotton jeans.
  • We can also offer pure cotton jeans or very dirty blue jeans 60 degrees wash, but denim trousers can quickly lose color.
  • Since most heavy-duty laundry detergents contain bleach, which can bleach jeans, we should Fine- or Color detergent use. On softener we should complete dispense, as the fibers become softer and the jeans wear out faster. You can find everything about detergents here.

Washing jeans: the best washing tips

  • Preparation: All pockets of the jeans should be emptied beforehand and the jeans should be turned inside out. Buttons and zippers should ideally be closed.
  • First wash: We should sort the laundry well with new and especially dark jeans. To prevent discoloration, we can soak the jeans in a bath of water and vinegar before washing them for the first time.
  • Dryer – yes or no? Jeans are best dried in the fresh air. In the dryer, stretch jeans in particular could shrink. If the dryer has a special gentle program, the jeans can also dry in it from time to time.
  • Ironing – yes or no? Jeans, if at all, should be ironed inside out. In fact, it is enough if we shake out our pants and smooth them out. And what about wrinkle-free shirts? We'll tell you: ironing shirts.
