Washington may authorize sending Abrams tanks to Kyiv

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States could change its mind about the Abrams tanks by allowing them to be delivered to Ukraine, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Tuesday, adding that an announcement could come as soon as this week.

No final decision has been made to their knowledge and the Pentagon could not immediately be reached for comment.

The US decision to send Abrams tanks to Ukraine could prompt Germany, hitherto reluctant, to in turn authorize the supply of German-made Leopard 2 heavy tanks by third countries to the Ukrainian army.

Berlin confirmed on Tuesday that it had received a request from Poland on this subject.
