Beware of this new email scam that could cost you dearly if you fall into the trap!

The latest was relayed by the Numerama site which denounces a scam concerning the Pôle Emploi application space.
However, it is not really job seekers who are targeted first. Indeed, this time the employers are the victims. Moreover, the scammers seem to have refined their phishing techniques which are increasingly sophisticated. When a company posts a job offer, the scammer will respond to it by creating an account specifically for that. The hacker will therefore send his so-called CV and cover letter, when in reality it is a file in PDF format that contains phishing links!

Scammers will therefore use the Pôle emploi platform to send a file of phishing links to companies. Pôle emploi for its part sends an email to the employer to give him the downloaded files. And this is where he falls into the trap! By clicking on the link, he will arrive on a home page of Pôle emploi which asks him to fill in a form with its platform identifiers. According to the media, the scam is so well put together that it is easy to fall into the trap. The email in question is from from a Pôle Emploi server and the IP address used is also valid. This is what employers receive “Hello. Following your offer published today on the pole-employment site, we offer you several profiles corresponding to your search. So be sure to access the link on the CV if attached which will allow you to view these profiles…”. But in reality, this document was generated on a Google Doc. Moreover, we notice that there is a misspelling “here attached” writes “if attached”. In total, more than 4,000 fraudulent emails were sent ! “These files contain a lot of personal information, so it will be easier to target the victim, deceive them or blackmail them when you know so much about their past, their passions, etc.” explains Numerama, pointing out the dangerousness of this scam.
