It was just a rumor, and now it’s a reality: Youtube will suggest you watch… anything.

At the beginning of the week, we learned that YouTube, a platform which sees more than 2.7 billion Internet users every month, was going to launch a new feature aimed at offering them random content.

In addition to valuable recommendations, this new tab could (among other things) allow visitors to (re)discover popular content from their favorite videographers.

A few hours ago, YouTube made this new section official, which will indeed be called “For you”, as on other platforms. The functionality can be activated from the creator area and will display personalized content depending on the person who opens the page.

Content creators are invited to activate (or not) the functionality in question, and it will begin to appear to Internet users from November 20.

A way to boost “old content”?

According to Google, this new section will randomly display “ a mix of content from the creator’s channel matched to viewers based on their viewing history “. In the settings, the content creator can decide to display classic videos, Shorts, or even live content rebroadcasts.

In this way, the videographer can choose to highlight his Shorts, or on the contrary to randomly display recent (or old) videos in standard format. A bit like a “Random” button specific to a YouTube channel, which could boost the view counter of certain content. The section will be positioned on the content creator’s page, with a carousel located at the top of the screen.

When launched, this new “For you” section can be deactivated with a simple click. We will now see if content creators will find real interest in this section, and if it will be effective in the eyes of spectators in increasing engagement, while being discreet enough not to disrupt the user experience. First elements of response on November 20.
