The SoC Tensor G3 is starting to get talked about, and we now have an idea of the power that the chip will offer. The Pixel 8 should again be slower than other high-end Android smartphones on the market.
As every year, the next Tensor G3 chip that will be found in high-end Pixel smartphones will be based on an Exynos chip from Samsung. However, this year, the Korean giant had decided to do not launch SoC Exynos 2300 on its recent Galaxy S23in favor of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 “For Galaxy” chip from Qualcomm.
Google has therefore worked closely with Samsung to transform the Exynos 2300 into Tensor G3 for its own smartphones. As usual, the chip promises not to be the most powerful on the market, but it should instead bet on a very efficient NPU, that is to say the artificial intelligence integrated into the smartphone.

The Tensor G3 chip will be slower than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
According to a report by IT Home, the Exynos 2300 will feature a Cortex-X3 CPU core running at a maximum frequency of 3.09 GHz. The chip is also said to feature three Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.65 GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz. Graphically, the Exynos 2300 chip will use a semi-custom Xclipse 930 GPU based on AMD’s RDNA2 architecture and capable of clocking up to 1.4GHz.
The main core is therefore not only slower than that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which reaches 3.2 GHz (or 3.36 GHz on the “For Galaxy” model), but the chip also offers a configuration of cores less focused on performance, and more on energy efficiency.
The Tensor G3 chip should therefore be much less greedy than the previous generation. It may also count on a 4 nm engravingcompared to an etching of 5 nm for the Tensor G2.
We should learn more about that by the time the device launches next fall. Until then, it is possible that Google will show us first official images of the Pixel 8 and 8 Proat the launch of the Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet at the Google I/O conference in May.
