1. Forget oncoming traffic
Light signals without arrows are relatively rare in Germany compared to other countries. When turning left, you quickly forget that if there is no directional arrow, the oncoming traffic is green and has right of way ahead of us as a left-turn What happens then? See video! Enclosed: If you turn right, oncoming traffic has to wait.
2. Overlooked bicycles, pedestrians and trams
Most bicycles and trams in the same direction and pedestrians in the cross street have green and right of way. Never just rely on the outside mirror, a look over the shoulder is a must! If you stop when you turn right because of pedestrians, you should do so offset to the right: This way, those driving straight ahead can still get through.
3. Block intersections
Sometimes you just don’t expect it to stall – but often the following applies: «The main thing is, I get over it. ” Only then no one else can get over it. If there is a backlog, wait at the stop line! If it happens: You can also drive next to instead of behind the car in front so as not to block cross traffic.
4. Leave huge gaps
You are one of the most annoying types of motorists (more here): Some drivers stop at the red light with so much distance from the vehicle in front that one less car can get through when it is green. Please unlock the red light. Not down to the last centimeter (e.g. for an emergency lane), but close enough. And go quickly when it is green!
5. Sleepy green
Typing messages during the red phase is doing your wallet no favors (sorry instead of 100 francs for telephone fines!) – and annoying: Especially in cities, it is inconsiderate to oversleep the often short green phases. And as already mentioned: if it is green, please go quickly, you are not alone on the slopes.
