The Intel NUCs continue on their merry way, since it has now been 10 years since the first model was presented by the manufacturer. These mini PCs intended for office automation, and above all to save users a lot of space, also have the advantage of being upgradeable from year to year thanks to the replacement of a simple Compute Element card to be connected in the case.
Over time, different models have been offered to meet more advanced uses, and much more efficient – and larger – NUCs have emerged, embedding higher-end processors. Above all, they kept space to install a dedicated graphics card and plenty of RAM and storage.

A new NUC in search of performance
Also called Raptor Canyon, the NUC 13 Extreme that Intel has just unveiled is part of this series of mini PCs with a muscular configuration, since it offers one of the brand’s best processors, an Intel Core i9 13900K, which can be coupled with a GPU occupying up to three slots, 64 GB of DDR5-4800 MHz RAM and a maximum of three M.2 SSDs. Intel Killer 6E wifi is included, and there are six UBS 3.2 Gen 2 ports on the back and two Thunderbolt 4 ports.

The new kid should therefore satisfy gamers and professionals who need hardware acceleration on a daily basis and are looking for a PC that does not take up too much space. However, this model has become overweight compared to the latest Canyon models, and if it displays a volume 70% smaller than conventional towers, it is a kind of pre-assembled mini ITX tower.
Incidentally, the company Bleu Jour, a French partner of Intel which manufactures design cases – especially for NUCs – was present and showed a prototype of its future case that can accommodate the Raptor Canyon. If we do not yet know the selling price of this one, it is completely original and should be declined as always in several colors and finishes.

The price of this Raptor Canyon will start at $1179 and can go up to $1549, but you will have to add VAT for the price in euros; the bill may prove to be quite hefty by grafting a high-end graphics card and DDR5, which is still expensive. The NUC Extreme 13 is already available in China, but it will be necessary to wait a few weeks before seeing it arrive in France.
