We saw the MG 9, a hyper-aerodynamic electric car that recharges in the blink of an eye

MG is definitely stocking up on new products at the Geneva Motor Show. In addition to its premium IM brand and the MG S9 SUV, the Chinese brand presents a fourth new electric car, the MG 9, which announces remarkable aerodynamics and compatible with battery exchange. We went to see her.

If European manufacturers are avoiding the Geneva Motor Show (with the notable exception of Renault, which is presenting its highly anticipated Renault 5 E-Tech), the Chinese are occupying the space with great new products.

As proof, MG, which presents no less than four new electric cars: the premium-oriented IM L6 and LS6, but also the MG S9, a fastback SUV, and its sedan version, the MG 9, which we will talk about here.

Record aerodynamics

As with the MG S9, it is important to keep in mind that this MG 9 has already existed since March 2023 in China under the name Rising Auto F7 (Rising Auto being part, like MG, of the SAIC group).

No surprise then, since only the logo changes. This MG 9 is a large electric sedan, 5 m long and 1.95 m wide, enough to compete head-on with the Tesla Model S. The MG has absolutely remarkable aerodynamics of 0.206, even better than that of the Model S. (0.208).

In terms of style, we find looks of Nio ET7. We thus find at the front very tapered headlights and a second block of projectors in the shields, while the fastback profile and the light strip at the rear are still very reminiscent of the Nio sedan.

A technological interior

The interior, on the other hand, is extremely similar to that of the MG S9. We thus find the enormous screen on the dashboard, very similar to the Mercedes-Benz Hyperscreen, made up of three screens: one behind the steering wheel of 10.25 inches, one in the center of 15.05 inches and a third for the passenger 12.3 inches.

Everything is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, but, unlike the SUV, a fourth 8-inch screen is present for the rear passengers. The dimensions of the trunk and the presence (or not) of a frunk at the front are not specified.

Powerful and compatible with battery exchange

This new electric MG benefits from a more powerful engine than the S9, since a second engine makes its entry, enough to offer 400 kW/544 hp and 700 Nm of torque. The acceleration is affected, with 0 to 100 km/h completed in 3.8 seconds.

The battery is also larger: we find a 90 kWh NMC (nickel – manganese – cobalt) pack, which suffers from the high power to display “only” 505 km according to the WLTP standard.

However, it maintains compatibility with a battery exchange system (“battery swap”, like Nio once again), enough to take advantage of a new battery in the blink of an eye. However, we will not know if this solution will be adopted in Europe.

Furthermore, MG does not communicate either a release date or European prices for this MG 9. In China, its clone is priced between 189,900 and 309,900 yuan (or approximately between 24,320 and 39,700 euros), but these prices will be good higher once in Europe. In addition, given the equipment and services, we will have to expect prices higher than the current range.
