Released in theaters on July 12, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning did not achieve the expected success, collecting “only” 496 million dollars internationally (for an estimated budget of 290 million).
Its break-even point would be around 725 million dollars, the American media estimate. In France, the film with Tom Cruise painfully passed the bar of 2 million admissions.

However, Tom Cruise had given of himself, notably performing the most perilous stunt of the saga with this motorcycle jump from a cliff.

Podcast guest The Empire Spoiler Special Film Podcastdirector Christopher McQuarrie delivered this unusual anecdote about Tom Cruise. “The entire mission briefing scene was crafted in a week and shot in a day. With the exception of the side scenes, which we shot in Tom Cruise’s garage in Florida because there was something missing.”revealed the filmmaker.

“First of all, we rushed to shoot the scenes, and everything you shoot in a hurry never comes to anything. It was the longest day of shooting, the last. I realized in going up the stage I had the key, Ilsa [Rebecca Ferguson]the bounty hunters, and that we had a hard time understanding what Marie’s flashbacks meant [Mariela Garriga]”explains the director.
“I was in the editing room. I was entering Marie’s footage and I was like, ’30 years ago, you were given a choice’. I just screwed up. Stop asking the audience to understand and just tell him what he wants to know”said McQuarrie.
The latter then made a phone call to Tom Cruise to explain to him that the sequence was not readable and that it was necessary in particular to add plans with identity photos.
“So we brought a desk, a floor, a bag, some pictures and a gun, all the basics, and went to Tom’s garage in Florida. We hired a small crew to redo everything.”confided the director.
