When we discovered the existence of the Mi Smart Air Fryer, we immediately imagined testing it. Xiaomi, used to connecting everything and anything, is tackling fries this time. What is the Mi Smart Air Fryer worth? To find out, we decided to cook homemade fries, mozza sticks and salmon steaks with the fryer that Xiaomi sells for around 100 euros. For the occasion, Numerama’s YouTube channel is transformed into a cooking channel.
An almost normal fryer
What is the Mi Smart Air Fryer worth? First, we found that its entire connected arsenal is very optional. If the fryer connects well to Wi-Fi, it sometimes struggles to communicate its status to the application Xiaomi Home, which prevents us from knowing where the cooking is. Then, the recipes offered by Xiaomi do not all seem able to configure the fryer well. The one for fries, for example, does not set the appliance to the correct temperature and prevents the fries from cooking properly. Paradoxically, the best is to configure the fryer by hand, with its OLED screen or smartphone. Google Assistant only allows you to turn the fryer on or off. Nothing else.
However, at 100 euros, we liked the Mi Smart Air Fryer. Its all-white design is already perfect for the most casual uses. Xiaomi’s fryer is prettier than many competitors. It is not, however, a real oil fryer but more of a convection oven, which explains why everything does not cook evenly inside.
