“We want to give voice to people who are rarely seen on the air”

In a few days, the public audiovisual companies (France Télévisions, Radio France, France Médias Monde, National Audiovisual Institute, Arte) will know the means that will be allocated to them in order to implement the contracts of objectives and means currently under discussion, for the next five years, with the Ministry of Culture.

“We are doubly worriedwarns Denis Gravouil, the secretary general of the CGT spectacle. On the level of the budgets themselves, but also on the system of financing public broadcasting by a fraction of the VAT, set up after the abolition of the former royalty. The sustainability of this system is still not assured. » At France Télévisions, however, these uncertainties about the future, but also the battering of the private channels or the strike which has affected the newspapers since Sunday, September 3, do not affect the serenity of the president, Delphine Ernotte Cunci.

News from France Télévisions is back under threat of a strike notice against the removal of “12-13” and “19-20” from France 3. What do you say to those who see it as a reduction in pluralism?

I am aware that for the former members of the national editorial staff of La Trois, deleting what was “their” edition is not easy. However, what are viewers telling us? They expect local news seen from home, the countryside and the outskirts, less Parisian-centric. We go from two daily national editions on France 3 (the “1 p.m.” and “8 p.m.” of France 2 remain!) to forty-eight regional editions.

It’s a way for us to give a voice to people who are rarely seen on the air, and to give space to what happens outside places of power. In a word, I carry a strategy of reconquest of all the territories. We are decentralizing. It is a movement necessary and expected by the French.

Baptized “ICI 12/13” and “ICI 19/20”, these editions bear the name of a brand, ICI, which you already share on digital with Radio France. The next step seems to be the development of a joint editorial project, a step closer to a merger with France Bleu…

I have never been ambiguous on this subject: I am in favor of closer ties and the most extensive cooperation possible with my colleagues in the public audiovisual sector. In proximity, I am for a form of union between France 3 and France Bleu, with which we already share more than thirty common mornings. We can and we must go much further to better distribute ourselves on the ground, to account for the diversity and richness of the territories. A single brand, a common editorial line… all of this will be specified in the contract of objectives and means which is currently being negotiated with the State.
