Ukraine regularly attacks Russian territories with drones. The targets are primarily critical infrastructure and supply lines. The latest attacks target Rosneft oil refineries.

Ukraine has set at least one facility on fire with renewed drone attacks on Russian oil refineries in the Samara region. A fire at a refinery owned by the state oil company Rosneft in Syzran in the Samara region was brought under control after several hours, the Emergencies Ministry said, according to the Interfax news agency. The plant can process up to 8.5 million tonnes of crude oil annually or up to 170,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

A drone attack on the Novokuybyshevsky refinery operated by Rosneft in the same region was foiled, the local governor said. In Ukraine, an insider said that the SBU secret service also attacked the Kuibyshevsky refinery, which is located directly in Samara. The regional capital is located around 500 kilometers southeast of Moscow and 800 kilometers northeast of the Ukrainian border.

“The SBU continues its strategy of undermining the economic potential of the Russian Federation, which allows it to wage war against Ukraine,” the insider said. Ukraine has recently increased its drone attacks in Russia on oil industry facilities. The resulting production losses could lead to rising prices. Russia has already restricted fuel exports to keep prices stable for motorists and agriculture and to temporarily shut down facilities for maintenance work.
