Wear OS, ECG, great autonomy… it has very serious arguments to make

The Watch 2 Pro is Xiaomi’s first Wear OS watch. It also benefits from numerous health measures and an announced autonomy of more than two days with always-on screen.

The announcement was expected and Xiaomi was there. This Tuesday, on the occasion of the launch of its new Xiaomi 13T and 13T Pro, the Chinese manufacturer also unveiled its first connected watch running Wear OS, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro.

The least we can say is that, on paper, this exciting new product has little to envy of the models from Samsung or Google. For its aesthetic appearance, we find here a watch which takes up the codes of traditional watchmaking with a round shape, a large bezel around the dial and a rotating crown on the side, adorned with two buttons. With a format of 47.6 x 45.9 x 11.8 mm and a weight of 54.5 grams without bracelet, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro is designed with a stainless steel case and a Gorilla Glass screen covering . The watch is thus certified 5 ATM and can therefore be worn underwater, but not while diving.

Concerning the screen, here too Xiaomi does things well with an Amoled panel 1.43 inches in diameter for a definition of 466 x 466 pixels and a density of 326 pixels per inch. The screen is also compatible with the always-on display to keep a dial permanently displayed.

A Xiaomi watch under Wear OS

Where the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro differs from the firm’s previous elegant watches – we think in particular of the Xiaomi Watch S1 – is at the level of the on-board operating system. It benefits from a Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, as well as Google’s Wear OS system. Like the Pixel Watch, Galaxy Watch, Ticwatch or Fossil watches, it will allow the user to install a plethora of applications to extend the functionality of the watch. Until now, it was not possible to install third-party applications on Xiaomi watches due to ZeppOS system restrictions. Wear OS is more open and allows, for example, Google Maps, Google Wallet (with contactless payment using NFC), Spotify, Citymapper, WhatsApp and many others.

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro will also benefit from sports activity tracking with multi-band GNSS geolocation. It has 150 sports modes. Of course, the watch also offers sleep monitoring, heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2). Note also that the Xiaomi watch has a speaker and a microphone for making Bluetooth or 4G calls with the eSIM version. It also offers an electrocardiogram, temperature sensor and body composition analysis.

More than two days of battery life with always-on screen

It is also in terms of autonomy that the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro surprises. The Chinese manufacturer promises up to 65 hours of battery life, or two and a half days, with always-on screen for the Bluetooth model – 55 hours for the 4G model. For comparison, with the exception of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro or the Ticwatch Pro 5, other watches under WearOS struggle to exceed 24 hours of battery life with this function activated.

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro is available this Tuesday. It is offered in France in two colors – silver with leather strap or black with rubber strap – and two versions, 4G and Bluetooth. For the 4G model it will cost 329.99 euros, while the Bluetooth version is offered at 269.99 euros.
