After a rainy week, temperatures plummeted on Friday night. As a result, the rain turned into snow. This makes for a weekend perfect for snow sports. But then the temperatures rise again.

How long does the snow stay in the lowlands?

The snow will definitely stay with us this weekend. The high pressure area will remain and the nights will be really frosty.

On Saturday there will be a so-called ice day in most places, as temperatures will remain below zero degrees Celsius. This is also thanks to the Bise. Sunday night will also be cold. But already on Sunday the temperatures will go back into positive territory and a thaw will slowly but surely set in.

How much snow is there in the mountains?

It will only continue to snow sporadically, so the large amounts of snow have now fallen. There is currently above average snow in the mountains.

Good snow days can be expected at the weekend, even for sledding in the lowlands. In addition, the sun will often shine.

Towards the end of the month, such low temperatures can no longer be expected.

What is the avalanche danger?

The altitude has an influence on this. From 2000 meters the danger of avalanches is considerable and in the southwestern Valais it is even great. With the stable weather over the weekend, the danger of avalanches will decrease again.

What is the forecast for next week?

The low temperatures will not last in the coming week, and from Monday the general weather situation will change. The polar air is displaced, it becomes windy and, at around ten degrees Celsius, relatively warm for the time of year. The nights also remain well above the zero degree limit. Towards the end of the month, such low temperatures can no longer be expected, although this forecast is still uncertain.
