Google adapts to DMA rules and revolutionizes the search engine experience. Changes have also been made to Android and Chrome.

On March 6, 2024, the Digital Markets Regulation (DMA) comes into force in Europe. Google was forced to make numerous changes within its services to comply. In a blog note, the American firm details several of these modifications.

Google Search, Android and Chrome are affected

Google explains that it has made more than 20 corrections to its search results. The company particularly highlights the removal of certain features, such as the unit dedicated to Google Flights. We had also already noticed that the integration of Google Maps in Search is no longer as thorough as before.

According to what Google says, the new results page should give pride of place to comparison sites for finding flights and hotels, as well as for online shopping. Google services should therefore be much less advantaged in this area.

On Android, additional choice screens will appear when configuring a device to select a default search engine or browser. On the iOS and desktop versions of Chrome, the user will also have to confirm which search engine they want to use.

YouTube, Ad Services, Google Play, Chrome, Google Shopping
and Google Maps between them. The personalization of content and advertising is notably influenced by your choices.

Google says that new consent banners asking users if they want to associate their Google services will appear during navigation, based on their activity.

For developers, Google reminds that it has already launched programs so that they can use alternative billing systems rather than that of Google Play.

The best alternatives to Google services in 2024

So to make it more relevant, it must be attractive and meet the specific needs of the Internet user. How to achieve this? Quite simply by multiplying the techniques to track the latter.
