Wednesday on Netflix: this group of the 80s becomes popular again thanks to the series

Back on the front of the stage thanks to the series “Wednesday” on Netflix, the group The Cramps sees one of its titles propelled into the charts.

After Kate Bush and Metallica, it’s The Cramps’ turn to meet a new audience thanks to a Netflix series. In Wednesday, directed in part by Tim Burton, the heroine played by Jenna Ortega indulges in a wild dance on the title Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps during episode 4. Since then, the song has seen its popularity climb in the charts.

The music magazine Billboard explains that plays have increased by 5000% in the space of five days. As of November 28, the song has been streamed over 134,000 times in the United States – up from 2,500 times before the series was released.

Formed in New York in 1976, punk rock band The Cramps broke up in 2009 following the death of lead singer Lux Interior. Released in 1981, the song Goo Goo Muck is actually a Ronnie Cook & The Gaylads cover, first performed in 1962.

A few months ago, it was Kate Bush’s hit, Running Up That Hill, who found a new life thanks to season 4 of Stranger Things. The British artist, surprised to see his title regain the charts 37 years after its release, had thanked the creators of the series for his new fans.

In Mercredi, the dance scene continues to make people talk. On TikTok, the song Goo Goo Muck has been replaced by bloody mary of Lady Gaga who, in turn, is finding new popularity with the public. The song even sent to French radio stations this Friday, December 2.
