When visitors suddenly arrive and there is little time left to show off fresh pastries, these apple turnovers are just right. In just a few minutes you have a delicious snack ready.

Even with a quick trip to the supermarket, this treat still manages to be on the table when things need to be done quickly. The puff pastry pouches hardly take any work and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side they are an absolute pleasure in spring and summer weather – or even when we need a distraction from the rain.

This is how you prepare the apple turnovers

Ingredients

  • 2 packs of puff pastry rolls
  • 2 apples
  • 150 g dark chocolate shavings
  • optional: 1 pack of vanilla ice cream and a sugar-cinnamon mixture

preparation

  1. Wash and core the apples and cut them into thin slices.
  2. Now heat a pan with a lid over medium heat and add the apple pieces with a little water. Put the lid on and let the apple pieces fry (and soften) for four minutes.
  3. Turn off the heat and use the residual heat to mix the chocolate shavings with the apple pieces.
  4. Now preheat the oven to the desired temperature according to the puff pastry packaging.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into six rectangles.
  6. Place one to two tablespoons of filling in each top corner (on the short side of the rectangle) and fold the free short end over it. Using the tips of a fork, press the overlapping ends of the dough together – making sure there are no gaps around the edges.
  7. Place the finished dumplings on a tray lined with baking paper. If you like, you can carefully cut three slits on the surface with a knife and sprinkle some sugar over the finished apple turnovers.
  8. Bake the apple turnovers according to the instructions on the packaging (usually 12 to 15 minutes). They should look golden brown and crispy.
  9. Take the apple turnovers out of the oven and let them cool briefly.
  10. Serve the pockets while they are still warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a sugar-cinnamon mixture that you sprinkle lightly over the creation.

A little hint: If you want the apple turnovers to look particularly golden, you can brush the dough with egg yolk before baking.

More delicious creations

Instead of chocolate shavings, you can also use vanilla sauce or a little butter and sugar for the apple mixture. The apples caramelize slightly with sugar if they are sautéed in the pan beforehand. If you prefer to choose a more natural option, you can use honey. That also tastes wonderful. Other fruits such as Strawberries in summer are also possible.
