Welcome to Derry: a prequel series of It’s coming on HBO Max

The kingdom of the Pennywise clown expands again… In development for several months, the series Welcome to Derryprequel to the novel (and films) Thathas officially been ordered by the HBO Max streaming platform.

“Down We’re All Floating”

Developed by Jason Fuchs (wonder woman), Andrés Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti (That, It: Chapter 2), this prequel will explore the universe of Stephen King’s original book, published in 1986, and expand the vision established in the films That (2017) and It: Chapter 2 (2019).

Few details are known about the project, whose production is in its infancy. We know, however, that Andy Fuchs will be co-creator of the future series, with Brad Caleb Kane (tokyo vice), and that he signs the writing of the first episode, according to a story conceived by himself, Andy and Barbara Muschietti. “To be able to return to the world of my favorite horror novel and help build on the singularly brilliant cinematic universe created by Andy and Barbara is more than the opportunity of a lifetime, it’s a dream come true”announced Jason Fuchs.

For his part, author Stephen King said: “I’m thrilled the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing, and I’m glad Andy Muschietti is overseeing the spooky festivities, with a group including his talented sister, Barbara. Red balloons all over the place !”.

As a reminder, the book That was made into a TV movie in 1990, starring Tim Curry as Pennywise. A new adaptation by Andrès Muschietti was released in 2017, this time with Bill Skarsgård as the demonic clown. The film was a hit, grossing over $700 million. Its sequel, released two years later, grossed $473 million at the global box office.

The HBO Max streaming platform is not yet available in France, but we should be able to access its content via Amazon Prime Video’s Warner Pass. This will be accessible from March 2023 via the Prime Video Channels, at an as yet unknown price.
