Werder Bremen wins clearly
Curious own goal saves Hamburg in Aue
Drama in Aue. The hosts missed the first win of the season in the last second. An own goal in the last second saves HSV, who still missed the leap to the top. Northern rival Bremen has no problems with Heidenheim and ends the mini-crisis in front of almost 30,000 spectators.
Erzgebirge Aue – Hamburger SV 1: 1 (1: 0)
After a very weak performance in the 2nd Bundesliga, Hamburger SV has with great difficulty prevented a defeat at the still winless bottom side Erzgebirge Aue. An own goal by Dirk Carlson (90 + 4) saved a 1: 1 (0: 1) for the guests who played 20 minutes in excess. Antonio Jonjic had put Aue in the lead (23rd).
“I don’t know if I’ve ever been bitterly deprived of a win. We don’t deserve it,” said Aues defender Sören Gonther at Sky. HSV captain Sebastian Schonlau was dissatisfied: “We haven’t played our best game by far. In the end, it’s a point win.”
Aue, under interim coach Marc Hensel, at least temporarily surrendered last place to FC Ingolstadt (both 4) with the same number of points, the Hamburg team remained without a win for the third time in a row in the Erzgebirgsstadion. In 2020 it was 0: 3, in spring a 3: 3 after a 2: 0 and 3: 1 lead.
In front of a sold-out house with 7750 spectators, HSV captain Sebastian Schonlau returned to central defense after serving a yellow-red ban. The guests had a lot of possession, but could not create any scoring chances and fell behind after a slapstick insert. Defender Jonas David headed Antonio Jonjic in a clearing attempt, the ball landed in the goal (23).
The setback had an effect. Hamburg now has big problems with the aggressive Auern, Sonny Kittel (41st) and Robert Glatzel (44th) only had equal opportunities in the final phase of the first half. On the other hand, Babacar Gueye missed centimeters to make it 2-0 (45th + 1).
After the break, HSV disappointed across the board. The changes from coach Tim Walter fizzled out, Aue had hardly any problems keeping the guests away from the goal. SV Werder Bremen – 1.FC Heidenheim 3: 0 (0: 0)
Full house, three points: For the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic, in front of almost completely occupied ranks, Werder Bremen ended its mini-crisis in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Bundesliga relegated team defeated 1. FC Heidenheim 3-0 (0-0) after two defeats with 0: 5 goals in front of almost 30,000 spectators in the Weserstadion and got back in touch with the leading group.
A double strike within 76 seconds by Marco Friedl (50th) and Marvin Ducksch (52nd) gave Werder a jump up with 14 points. Heidenheim, who contributed an own goal (64th) through Dennis Thomalla, received another setback after three wins and missed the leap to the top of the table.
“The atmosphere at the back was sensational,” said coach Markus Anfang: “I had the feeling that a lot of the Werder fans had dissolved. We needed that.”
In the new edition of the Bundesliga relegation just over a year ago, Werder initially found it difficult to advance into the dangerous zone. The Heidenheimers, very self-confident after their recent successes, defended with focus and had the only chance to score in the first half: After Bremen lost the ball in their own penalty area, Marnon Busch crossed Tim Kleindienst, who only hit the post with his header (39th).
It was only shortly after the restart that the knot burst, Ducksch with a free kick on Friedl and his fourth goal of the season made the preliminary decision. Kleindienst’s header hit just two minutes later was withdrawn after video evidence because of offside position. The game was finally over when Thomalla maneuvered the ball into his own goal after a Ducksch cross.
For the first time after 587 days and 30 home games, full capacity utilization was possible again in the Weser Stadium, and standing room was also taken up again. The 2G regulation applies, which allows only recovered or vaccinated fans access to the arena.
