Western Digital announces news for its favorite SSD, the WD_BLACK SN850. Specially optimized for the PlayStation 5, it is the first to have been officially dubbed by Sony to serve as an alternative storage solution on the console.

Optimized especially for the console, this M.2 NVMe bar is the first on the market to benefit from an official license granted by Sony for the PlayStation 5. To obtain this license, Western Digital explains that it conducted several hundred hours of tests on the most demanding titles from Sony’s machine, and in different usage scenarios.
The SN850 nevertheless shines above all by its speed, notably reaching 7000 MB/s in reading. In its press release, Western Digital does not, however, specify the speeds observed in writing… a data that is nevertheless important to gauge the effectiveness of its bar more generally.
