The default storage of your PlayStation 5 seems flat to you? Don’t worry, Western Digital has an SSD that will allow you to load your games at top speed: the WD_BLACK SN850. Optimized especially for the console, this M.2 NVMe bar is the first on the market to benefit from an official license granted by Sony for the PlayStation 5. To obtain this license, Western Digital explains that it conducted several hundred hours of tests on the most demanding titles from Sony’s machine, and in different usage scenarios.

The SN850 nevertheless shines above all by its speed, notably reaching 7000 MB/s in reading. In its press release, Western Digital does not, however, specify the speeds observed in writing… a data that is nevertheless important to gauge the effectiveness of its bar more generally.

A heat sink to prevent overheating

We are excited about this new project with Sony Interactive Entertainment and the opportunity to bring the officially licensed disc to PS5 players. said Susan Park, consumer solutions executive at WD. “(…) NOTWe want to build on our current commitment to developing purpose-built storage solutions to enhance the gaming experience for all gamers. “.

Unlike many other more conventional SSDs, the SN850 also benefits from a passive dissipation system to reduce heating during intensive use. A good additional point for an SSD which must also justify its salty price.

Because it will be necessary to extend the tickets to afford it. Western Digital displays the 1 TB version at 219.99 euros, while the 2 TB model is 329.99 euros. A substantial sum in one case as in the other, especially since SSDs, certainly a little more basic, but also much more affordable, are legion. We have devoted a complete comparison to them.

However, if the WD_BLACK SN850 caught your eye, know that it is available now on the Western Digital online store. Other resellers will be authorized to offer it… but only from mid-August, specifies the manufacturer.
