Indeed, in Japan, communication was deliberately and completely absent around the film, the studio having wanted to go against the tide of advertising bombardments and bet solely on the reputation of the master. It was a success, because the silence created a buzz in a way. As for the promotional choice of the French distributor, I have no certainty, but there are perhaps a few elements which explain this choice: it must be emphasized that animation is less popular in French cinemas than in Japanese ones (although we have some great successes at the box office). Furthermore, attendance at French cinemas is rather sluggish. And if Miyzaki enjoys an international aura, it is perhaps still necessary to communicate in a more conventional way in France than in Tokyo.

On a personal level, and although I understand your point of view and wish to preserve myself as much as possible before my viewing, I have also seen some images for the purposes of this chat. I don’t think it’s really possible to spoil a Ghibli with its promotion. Likewise, we also know that Miyazaki’s line and aesthetics are fairly constant; These images do not, in my opinion, totally detract from the surprise.
