Launched in 2020, the French streaming platform would be on sale. A French audiovisual group is already interested in buying Salto.
Only two years after its launch, Salto, the platform that dreamed of being “Netflix à la française” would be for sale, according to several media, in particular The echoes and Release. TF1 and M6 would have formalized their desire to leave the ship during a supervisory board at the end of last week, report the two media. France Télévisions, third holder of the platform, should do the same and not try to buy the shares of its private competitors, for lack of budget.
Canal+ interested in buying Salto?
The platform, which did not achieve the expected results when it was launched in 2020, would therefore be for sale. But another French audiovisual group would be interested in buying Salto, which would have 800,000 subscribers: Canal +, according to the Letter A. Even in the event of a sale, the three audiovisual groups could continue to sell the rights to their programs to the platform. It is also the exclusive programs and the broadcast of series episodes in preview that made the specificity and the attractiveness of the platform.
It remains to be seen whether, in the event of a takeover, the channels will leave these exclusivities to Salto, or whether they will keep their programming on their respective paid offers, such as the advance Release.
