What Happened to What’s Up, Doctor Star Kirk Cameron?

He became famous for his role as young Mike Seaver in “What’s up, doctor?”, a flagship program of the 80s and 90s. What has become of American actor Kirk Cameron since the end of the series?

If you were in front of your small screen in the 80s and 90s, you probably remember him. In the cult series What’s New, Doctor?, broadcast between 1985 and 1992 on the ABC channel (and from 1987 on Antenne 2), he played Mike Seaver, a somewhat turbulent but terribly endearing teenager. But what has become of actor Kirk Cameron since the end of the program?

After What’s Up, Doctor?, Kirk Cameron is surfing on success by starring in the comedy Kirk, a series bearing his name in which he plays a young illustrator dreaming of a career in New York but who must take in his two young brothers and his little sister at his home… The actor is then made very discreet on the screens, playing in the feature film A Little Piece of Heaven and a few modest TV movies.

It takes several years for us to really hear about Kirk Cameron again. Between 2000 and 2005, the one who took the head of the evangelical Christian organization The Way of the Master thus illustrated himself in the Christian trilogy Left Behind as well as in the series Les Anges du bonheur and Associées pour la loi.

If What’s up, doctor? is never far away with the release in 2000 and 2004 of two films in which he takes over his role of Mike Seaver, Kirk Cameron almost only turns in productions delivering a Christian message. These include Fireproof, which sees him slipping into the shoes of a firefighter trying to save his marriage, and the documentary Unstoppable, where he travels the roads to test his faith.

Kirk Cameron, who hit the headlines in 2012 with homophobic remarks, has somewhat disappeared from the radar in recent years. In 2019, the American had however played his own role in the series The Party at the house: 20 years later.

Now 51, the man who had six children with Chelsea Noble, met on the set of What’s New, Doctor?, is back in the spotlight this month with the release of Lifemark, his new feature film. We follow the story of a biological mother who bursts into the life of her son, 18 years after his birth.
