What if you made ChatGPT your default smartphone assistant? This adjustment could change everything

Among the most important new technologies of recent years, artificial intelligence is undoubtedly one of those with a bright future. So much so that over the years, it could become a lasting part of the daily lives of individuals. A new feature present in ChatGPT for Android could also make it your default assistant on a smartphone.

The ChatGPT chatbot is undoubtedly the most famous, the OpenAI tool having managed to establish itself as one of the first and most effective on the market. However, if there is one area in which the text and voice assistant is lagging a little behind at the moment, particularly compared to the default assistants offered by Google or Apple, it is indeed on smartphones. However, this is about to change, since a new element leads us to believe that it will soon be possible to replace Google Assistant with ChatGPT as the default assistant on Android.

ChatGPT, alternative assistant for Android smartphones?

Note that it is now already possible to use ChatGPT on a mobile equipped with Android. However, the method to access it is laborious to say the least. You have to go directly to the Open AI website via a web browser, or manually launch the ChatGPT application for Android in order to ask the chatbot a question. In other words, we are far from the efficiency and speed sought when we wish to communicate with an assistant.

Fortunately, OpenAI seems to be aware of this state of affairs, and has probably planned to remedy it in the near future: the latest version of ChatGPT on Android has been dissected by curious users, and the data taken from the code leaves hear that it should soon be possible to make it your default assistant on Android.

Thus, the ChatGPT version 1.2023.352 released last month was able to add a function named: com.openai.voice.assistant.AssistantActivity. This activity, deactivated by default, could thus make it possible to launch the application directly when you want to ask a question, a bit like any other assistant available on the market. As with an assistant, a small window that does not take up the entire screen should appear when you want to converse with the chatbot.

A function already accessible on iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max (with a little fiddling)

The advantage of the Action button on the iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max is that it is possible to allocate the activity of our choice to it. In doing so, each user of one of these two iPhones can already decide to link this button to the launch of the ChatGPT assistant, rather than having access to Siri. It is common knowledge that OpenAI’s artificial intelligence is miles away from that of Apple or even Android when we talk about an assistant for smartphones.

For the moment, ChatGPT for Android or iOS is therefore not officially recognized as an assistant, but this latest information seems to indicate that it should be in the near future. Enough to generate a lot of headaches for technology managers at Apple and Google, who, as we recall, have also invested a lot in artificial intelligence.
