Linked by their role as dance teacher and choreographer at Star Academy, Yanis Marshall and Kamel Ouali met much earlier in their careers.

A common experience. On October 15, the students of the new season of star Academy took their first steps on stage before entering the mythical castle of Dammarie-les-Lys. In addition to the candidates, it is a new faculty who was recruited to support and coach them. Teachers of singing, scenic expression, theatre, sports coach or even rehearsals, the academicians are very supervised to progress as quickly as possible. To enable them to deliver top performance during the primes, students are also entitled to dance lessons.

For the occasion, it’s Yanis Marshall who took over the position once held by iconic choreographer Kamel Ouali. During the first bonus, the new teacher was able to perform a dance demonstration and introduce students and viewers to his specialty: dancing in heels. During the evening, Yanis Marshall wished to thank her dancers and salute the former dance teacher. “I take this opportunity to give a huge kiss to Kamel Ouali with whom I started my career fifteen years ago”, did he declare. Indeed, it was in 2005, on the musical The sun King produced by Dove Attia and Albert Cohen, directed and choreographed by Kamel Ouali, that the dancer took his first steps on stage.

Yanis Marshall, an international reference

If he is only 32 years old, Yanis Marshall has a busy career. In 2014, he participated with Arnaud Boursain and Mehdi Mamine in Britain’s Got Talent. The trio advance to the semi-finals. Subsequently, Yanis Marshall is coach and choreographer on the British version of Dance with the stars and also works with Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas. He is also the one hiding under Deadpool’s costume in heels in the clip of Ashes by Celine Dion. Since then, the choreographer has appeared in the eleventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race and in Drag Race France. Now a teacher of Star Academy students, the choreographer seems determined to challenge the candidates and why not to make the boys dance in heels.
