What is this mysterious black Apple Watch Ultra that appeared on the web

Photos of a mysterious black Apple Watch Ultra are making the rounds on the web. This is actually a prototype sent to the FCC for validation.

Apple unveiled its Apple Watch Ultra 2 in September after long rumors about it. The brand’s best watch has been slightly improved without experiencing a revolution compared to its predecessor, launched only 12 months earlier.

So when photos of an Apple Watch Ultra with a slightly different design start circulating so quickly on social media, it’s easy to get carried away. However, it is nothing more and nothing less than a prototype coming out of Apple’s offices.

Why did Apple send a prototype to the FCC?

These photos of the product actually come from the FCC, the Federal Communications Commission, in other words the authority in charge of telecommunications in the United States. It is the equivalent of Arcep in France.

To market a device in the United States, you must first have it certified by the FCC by sending photos and documents on its characteristics. Here we discover the photos submitted by Apple in its file, visibly with a prototype of the watch.

We see an Apple Watch Ultra with a black ceramic case similar to other Apple Watch models on the market. Apple visibly changed this decision before marketing to allow its Ultra model to stand out more. Likewise, the Action button in the photos does not have the same design as on the final model and appears to be made of plastic.

This is therefore not a photo of a future Apple Watch Ultra, quite the contrary. However, this allows you to discover a model with a unique color.
