Your child has Einstein’s haircut and you don’t understand why? He may have developed uncombable hair disease! Do not panic, this syndrome is not dangerous for the health of children, but can generate complexes.
Uncombable hair disease is a rare syndrome that affects approximately 10,000 people in the world and concerns children aged 3 months to 12 years. Discovered in 1973, this pathology is so named because the hair of these children is particularly unruly: dry and disheveled, they grow in all directions and are therefore uncombable. Although this syndrome was discovered around fifty years ago, it was not until 2016 that scientists determined its origin: Inserm researchers discovered that uncombable hair disease was due to genetic mutations that impact hair formation. In question, a trio of genes: “the gene encoding one of its structural components, trichohyaline (TCHH); or two genes that cause enzymes that take turns targeting it: peptidyl-arginine deiminase 3 (PAD3) and transglutaminase 3 (TGase3)“explains INSERM.
