The screen of your Pixel Watch just has to hold on tight (to your wrist), because unfortunately it cannot be repaired.

Marketed since last year, the Pixel Watch, Google’s very first connected watch, is preparing to welcome a little sister. Recently, the Pixel Watch 2 also began to reveal its characteristics to us, enough to let us consider some nice developments for this new iteration. But for now, there is no reason to hope that the Mountain View firm will rework the design of its watch, in order to equip it with a more robust screen…

Pixel Watch: a pretty, fragile and… irreparable screen?

Launched in October 2022, the Pixel Watch undoubtedly has a very attractive design. Boasting round curves and a curved glass screen, Google’s watch stands out from its main competitors in terms of finishes and aesthetics. Although it benefits from a 1.2-inch AMOLED panel and has relatively thick borders, the Pixel Watch’s screen unfortunately seems beyond repair. As proof, many owners of the watch have repeatedly expressed their frustration with Google’s inability to replace potentially cracked screens.

Beyond the repairability problem (which we will address in a few moments), the Pixel Watch seems particularly fragile. It seems that a little thing is enough to crack its beautiful screen, as long as the owner is momentarily inattentive. According to a journalist from The Vergehis Pixel Watch would even have cracked in the space of a few days, without having suffered any major shocks.

Google won’t be able to repair your Pixel Watch if the screen is broken

Just yesterday, we learned that California plans to pass a law requiring manufacturers to extend the right to repair their devices up to seven years after the date of purchase. Unfortunately, when it comes to its Pixel Watch, Google simply seems unable to carry out any repairs. The American firm declared in the columns of The Verge that she “ did not have repair centers or service centers “. Subsequently, Bridget Starkey, who is none other than the spokesperson for Google, added this:

At this time, we don’t have any repair options for the Google Pixel Watch. If your watch is damaged, you can contact the Google Pixel Watch customer support team to check your replacement options “.

Note that the warranty policy does not take into account damage caused by the following causes: normal wear and tear, accidents, misuse, neglect, disassembly, modifications or repair carried out by an unauthorized technician by Google. So there is a slim chance that consumers will be able to get a replacement watch. If, on the side of the Cupertino company, the repair can quickly become expensive, having the screen of your Apple Watch replaced nevertheless remains a possibility…

Google Pixel Watch

  • Attractive design
  • The successful integration of Fitbit into Wear OS
  • Quality AMOLED screen

Long-awaited, the Pixel Watch is ultimately a small disappointment. Not that she’s bad. But this connected watch has a hard time standing out against better equipped, better optimized and less expensive competition… We will remember its round design which flatters the eye as well as its great comfort and its beautiful AMOLED screen. Unfortunately, this is all that makes the difference, the rest having difficulty rising to the level of the competition.

Sports tracking is not up to current standards at 400 euros. Same for autonomy, limited to one day (unless you make a lot of concessions). Unless the design of the Pixel Watch catches your eye, we would advise you to opt for the Galaxy Watch 5, which is much more complete and less expensive. Or, wait for the arrival of future Wear OS smartwatches with Snapdragon W5 SoCs.
