What to remember from Sony’s State of Play?

Nintendo and Microsoft had opened the conference ball for a few weeks already. Although not everything was as exciting as the release of Hi-Fi Rush or the return of Samus Aran in Metroid: Remastered, the events of the two giants augured some good slices of fun. So it was up to Sony to flex the muscles yesterday. And without being totally uninteresting, the State of Play failed to generate as much excitement as the competition.

Virtual reality, Sony’s new fad

The PS VR2 virtual reality headset has been available for a few days, and it is of course on compatible games that the firm has focused. Images of new franchises rather conventional as The FogLands, Synapse Or Journey to Foundation (based on the work of Isaac Asimov, of course) shared the poster with more original titles.

In the forefront, the enigmatic Humanity will put us in the shoes of a luminescent dog whose mission is to guide the crowd. The few images show an improbable mix between Okami, Katamari Damacy, Catherine Full BodyStar Wars and many other influences — this mix of genres comes from the Enhance studio to which we already owe Tetris Effect And Ground Infinite. A little less perched, but just as intriguing, Before Your Eyes also promises to use the possibilities of PS VR2 to reach the end of the adventure.

Alongside these new features, already known titles will be brought up to date with VR to gain immersion. We already knew for Resident Evil Villagebut this will also be the case for the remake of Resident Evil 4 and survival game Green Hell.

The other announcements

Other announcements totally detached from the PS VR2 were also made, such as that of the three new characters for street fighter 6 : Zangieff, Cammy and the little new Lily. In a completely different style, the RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on August 31 on PC and PS5. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League also made headlines with a heated video showing the various members of the team in action. If the Black Knight is content to knock out his opponents in the different opuses Arkham from the same studio (RockSteady), the suicide team has fewer scruples and an asset: the game in “coop”.
