There’s news on WhatsApp! Because Messenger now offers you a new form of communication to choose from. So far you have been able to send text and voice messages and make phone calls via the app, but now you have the option of sending instant video messages as an additional option.

What is video instant messaging? These are clips with a maximum length of 60 seconds that you can record and send directly with just a few clicks in Messenger. This gives you the opportunity to respond to messages in chat in real time with words and pictures, explains the messenger in his blog.

60-second video instant messages can now be sent

A video that Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg published on his Facebook channel shows how you send a video instant message. It is sufficient to briefly tap on the microphone symbol in the chat. This then turns into a camera. After that, you have to press and hold the button to record a video. WhatsApp then counts down from 3 and then starts recording. You can use both the front and rear cameras of your cell phone.

If you don’t want to keep the record button pressed the entire time, you have to swipe up once until the lock symbol appears. You already know that from voice messages. Apparently you can’t look at the video instant messages before they are sent. At least that’s how it looks in the video shared by Zuckerberg.

Rollout is gradual

In the chat itself, instant video messages are displayed as a circle. In this, the video initially only runs without sound. To activate the sound, you have to tap the message. Like other WhatsApp messages, instant video messages are encrypted end-to-end according to Messenger.

Also interesting…

According to WhatsApp, the feature will be gradually rolled out worldwide from now on. It wasn’t available on our devices yet. But you can easily test this. Tap briefly on the microphone in the chat, if it doesn’t turn into a camera, you have to be patient.
