- Threema has released an open source alternative to WhatsApp.
- Messenger works completely independently of Google.
- However, this service costs a one-off fee of five euros.
There is now another alternative to WhatsApp. It is called Threema Libre and relies entirely on open source and not on Google.
The full code for the Threema Libre app is available to everyone. To ensure its independence from Google, Messenger uses its own service for push notifications, Threema Push.
But there are two catches with this WhatsApp alternative. On the one hand you need a license for the app, which costs five euros once and you also have to install the F-Droid client on your Android smartphone.
