WhatsApp: Beware of this OBI Father’s Day competition!

Cyber ​​criminals are once again up to mischief on WhatsApp. They use the upcoming Father’s Day and advertise with a competition that is allegedly organized by the hardware store chain OBI. You can win one of 5,000 gas grills. But it is a fake.

The hardware store confirmed this in a comment to a user’s question in the OBI community on Facebook. Accordingly, the hardware store only advertises its competitions via the official social media channels and the website, not via WhatsApp.

The link should also make you suspicious. Because this does not lead to the OBI website, but is WP20.ru. According to another OBI fan, if you click on the link, you will end up on a fake website that looks confusingly similar to the real OBI website. There you will be asked to forward the competition to as many contacts as possible via WhatsApp in order to be able to claim your prize.

It is not known what the unknown people behind this fraud attempt intend to do. As a rule, personal data is requested from you in such fake sweepstakes, which is then resold.

But it can also happen that you are asked to install an app and your smartphone is infected with malware. So don’t click on the link. Virus protection should also be used on Android phones.
