Brian Acton takes the place of Moxie Marlinspike who just announced his withdrawal from the company in a blog post.
Signal had a good year 2021, thanks in particular to the arrival of tens of thousands of WhatsApp users who preferred to change creamery after the application of new conditions of use.
WhatsApp co-founder takes over until new CEO is appointed
It was at the very start of the year that Moxie Marlinspike, the founder and CEO of Signal, announced in a blog post that he was leaving after ten years of presidency and abandoning the day-to-day management of the company. The man nevertheless remains on the board of directors and will help in the search for a new CEO, while his mandate will end at the end of January 2022.
To support the company during these few days, Brian Acton, another very important player in the world of instant messaging, will replace him. The WhatsApp co-founder left Facebook in 2018, a few years after the group bought the service from Mark Zuckerberg.
After this departure, Brian Acton had invested nearly $ 50 million alongside Moxie Marlinspike to create the Signal Foundation, which would lead to the creation of Signal, a private messaging service offering end-to-end encryption and respectful of the confidentiality of its users.
