What’s up with the WhatsApp codes? We clarify! First of all, you need to know that there are different types of codes. The most important one is the verification code. You must NEVER pass this on.
It will be sent to you by SMS from WhatsApp when you set up your account, and is used to verify that you really are the owner of the account. Cyber criminals are now using all kinds of tricks to get this code out of you and then take over your account.
Encrypted backups and 2FA: even more WhatsApp codes
Each time you set up WhatsApp again, you will be sent a new verification code. So you don’t have to remember it. The situation is different, however, with the code with which you encrypt your cloud backup and with the 2FA code with which you can protect your account from unauthorized access.
