WhatsApp shows status update in chat overview
If you use WhatsApp a lot and like it, you’ve probably already used the status function to share something with all your contacts. The status function of WhatsApp has even got its own tab in addition to chats and calls. This is how you can use the status function, but you don’t have to. In the future, however, the feature will move more into focus. Just like on Instagram, for example In the future, status updates will be displayed in the WhatsApp chat overview. If a contact has posted something from you, the profile picture will be highlighted. If you go to an image, you will immediately land in the new status update (source: WABetaInfo).
So if you enjoy using WhatsApp’s Status feature, then this new feature will make your life a little easier as you can instantly see who posted a new status without having to go to the Statuses tab. Of course, if you don’t use the status updates at all, you’ll get a little more annoyed with them. Either way has WhatsApp again taken over a function from Instagram. Of course, it’s no surprise since both apps belong to Meta.

When will the new status feature for WhatsApp be launched?
As always, that’s a difficult question to answer. However, this is not really a new function, just a shortcut to the actual status update via the profile picture in the WhatsApp chat overview. It is quite possible that the function will appear soon. But we cannot rely on that. Features like editing messages have been in development for years and may finally be coming now.
