WhatsApp: Self-deleting pictures and videos can no longer be accessed
Self-deleting messages, images and videos in WhatsApp should ensure that you can send sensitive content without running the risk of it being stored there forever. The idea is good, but the implementation was a bit half-baked. The self-deleting pictures and videos that were sent via WhatsApp were no longer directly visible in Messenger, but they were were still on the smartphone and could be accessed there. Exactly that has now come to an end (source: WABetaInfo).
This is no longer possible in the current beta versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS. Photos and videos that are sent as a self-deleting message are then also no longer available on the smartphone and can be viewed again. This creates significantly more security – at least at first glance. Although you can no longer automatically find the pictures on the smartphone, you can still save them manually.
It remains to be seen whether WhatsApp will eventually close this gap. So you should not carelessly just send photos and videos, even if you use a self-deleting message in WhatsApp. Even if all local backup options are turned off, you will still be able to take a picture of the display. So there is no such thing as complete security.
